In the Basement

Have you felt like you were Locked in the basement of life?

I guess that’s the struggle I have been facing this last week.   I felt locked in the basement and I would knock and knock but noone would answer.  I felt completely alone with my thoughts.

That is a scary place to be:  My head without Jesus or hope can be worse than the scariest haunted house filled with fear and anxiety and doubts and tons of questioning and sometimes plain old anger.

As I have matured both in age and in my spiritual walk with the Lord these basement experiences become less and less.  BUT, when God is going to work in my life or my ministry or my family the first thing satan does is push me down the stairs.     He knows that if I’m in the basement he can control me and my thought life.

Charles Spurgeon wrote this after facing one of these moments in his ministry.

“I have gone to the very bottoms of the mountains, as some of you know, in a night that never can be erased from my memory…but, as far as my witness goes, I can say that the Lord is able to save unto the uttermost and in the last extremity, and he has been a good God to me.”

PSALMS 121 1:8

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord , the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Our help comes from God and God alone.  No person or habit or vice or amount of money can bring us up from the basement.   LEAVE THAT JOB TO THE MAKER OF THE UNIVERSE.

So as I’m coming up from the basement and the light is beginning to make my vision clearer I want to tell you DONT GIVE UP!!   Call out to Jesus and I promise you he will unlock the door and help you up the stairs.
